The 2nd Ice Swimming Aqua Sphere World Championships and the 3rd Ice Swimming Aqua Sphere German Open, from 5th – 8th of January 2017, are THE ice-water-swim-events in Germany and a MUST DO for any athlete who's searching for an extraordinary challenge. Ice cold, crystal clear water, international participants and the longest castle in the world will provide the ideal conditions and background for a sporting long weekend of fun, action, great atmosphere and loads of adrenalin in Burghausen, Bavaria.

You can be assured of “extreme goosebumps” with water temperatures of less than 5º C!

Wöhrsee, Burghausen. Ice-free competition pool at the foot of the world’s longest castle.

Warm-up Area

Heated tents, hot tubs, patio heaters, saunas etc are available at the venue.

Competition Pool

Ice-free pool in the lake (Wöhrsee) - 8 x 25 m lanes.

Safety / Rules

Safety first...

Swim wear

It's only allowed to wear standard swim wear (swimming trunks, Swimsuits/Bikini for women). The regulations of the International Ice Swimming Association (IISA) are applicable:: www.internationaliceswimming.com/rules

Time limit

The time limit for each race is set to the start time of the race that follows. If a swimmer exceeds the time limit, he or she will be asked to exit the water and the swim will be deemed as DNF (did not finish).

 

Safety briefing

All swimmers must attend the safety briefing. The participation is entirely at the swimmers’ own risk. The event host and organiser shall not be liable in any way for any loss or damage sustained by the participants, nor for death or injury to any participant unless caused by negligence of the host or organiser. The participants declare to effectively waive any rights to pursue a claim for any loss, damages, death or injury liability from the event host and organiser and its employees and volunteers, unless caused due to negligence of the event host and organiser.

Safety and rules

Participants/swimmers takes part entirely at their own risk and are obligated to use a RESTUBE swim safety buoy during every race (the safety buoy will be provided by the host/organiser). Every participant of the 500 m and/or 1000 m races must provide an affidavit at the medical examination confirming that he/she has swum the relevant distance at a water temperature of below 5 C within the last 12 months. Proof of participation in such races in other competitions will be accepted. Should such proof or affidavit not be available, it is possible to obtain this free of charge at the venue, provided the participant contacts the organisers in advance to arrange for this.

By registering to participate in the event, the swimmers declare that they are fit to take part in the competition and that they have no medical conditions that would endanger them or others taking part.

Registration

Participation eligibility & Safety regulations

Participation eligibility

Anyone can participate. A membership of any club is not required. By registering to participate in the event, the swimmers declare that they are fit and have no health issues that would prevent them to swim the relevant distances in water temperatures of below 5° C. The minimum age to participate is 16 years. The laws and anti-doping regulations of the relevant associations are applicable. The host and organiser reserves the right to exclude participants from taking part in the competition.
